Forgiveness

Forgiveness

Have you ever been wrongly accused?

Or when people heap blame on you, or spread malicious gossip about you, even though you've never hurt or harm them?

How about people being mean and nasty towards you, or treat you unfairly/badly?

Have you experienced all that before?

I have .........

And a whole lot more.

Perhaps it's in my kamma.

Or maybe so that I can learn about universal and unconditional love.

Whichever the case, all that I know is that it has helped teach me the virtue of forgiveness.

Don't we make mistakes sometimes?

Don't we have weaknesses, too?

I know I do.

So why can't we forgive others?

Or do we think we're so 'perfect'?

Just because people have a bit of weaknesses or did us some wrong, we think they're totally bad.

If you think about it,

No one is totally good or bad.

In 'Projection vs Reality' - ( http://maitre-light.blogspot.com/2007/01/projection-vs-reality.html), I mentioned that in good, there's bad, and in bad, there's good -

Two sides of the same coin.

We are the ones who put people high up on the pedestal.

And we are also the ones who judge others on their weaknesses and banish them to the Cold Palace or Avici Hell.

With our discriminating and prejudicial minds, we focus on their 2 black spots and ignore all the white patches, or vice versa.

As The Great and Compassionate Buddha once said,

"Evil doers are not wicked by nature; They do evil out of ignorance."

So why can't we open our hearts and forgive them?

Isn't it painful holding on to a grudge?

Doesn't the chest hurts and feel weighed down by all the anger, grievances, enmity and hate?

So why not forgive, let go and be free?

In 'Provocation vs Forgiveness' - (http://maitre-light.blogspot.com/2007/01/provocation-vs-forgiveness.html), I said that "Forgiveness is the highest form of love."

We forgive others not for them, but for ourselves;

And to give others a chance, is to give ourselves a chance,

A chance to set ourselves Free.

"The more evil that comes to me,

The more good will radiate from me."

- The Buddha

"Let's accept others as they are - good or bad."

"It's through the harshness (of life) that we learn."

"Forgiveness is the highest form of love -

It is to the one who forgives that wisdom comes....

Freedom comes,

Victory comes."
